Most field service representatives choose too big a service area and they get into trouble when they cannot provide on-time service for the area. The key to making money in field services is to service a small area and build up volume by servicing more customers. More customers provides diversity and hence more security. I would rather have a dozen great customers rather than just one customer. Service a SMALL service area and build volume in that area by adding more customers. You will be more efficient and you will make more money!

  1. This article hits close to home. The worst mistake I’ve made so far is servicing too large an area. Vehicle expense! Time consumption! Ugh! Take Richard’s advice to heart.
