Let SOFI Put Your Business On A Low-Information Diet

Start diet today

I lived in Atsugi, Japan (near Tokyo) for four years while serving as a Naval Flight Officer. In Japan, people worked themselves to death … a phenomenon called karooshi (過労死) (Death By Work). The major medical causes of karooshi deaths are heart attack and stroke due to stress. Surviving family members benefited if a relative died while on the job. If a death is judged karooshi, surviving family members may receive compensation of around $20,000 a year from the government and sometimes up to $1 million from the company in damages. For deaths not designated karooshi the family gets next to nothing. In today’s world we are all going to be working longer. We may be living longer and working until we die.

I can’t give you a surefire formula for success as you grow older and are still working, but I can give you a formula for failure: try to please everybody all the time. You can also become dysfunctional by trying to absorb too much information from untrusted sources. Let SOFI put your business on a low-information diet. There are many things of which a wise man might wish to be ignorant. Learn to ignore or redirect all information and interruptions that are irrelevant, unimportant, or inactionable. Most are all three.  Learn to ignore the mortgage segment of the industry … the home of some of the worst national and regional field service firms. It’s important to learn that an inspector working for other inspectors is HIGH RISK.

We’re all battling a storm of distractions. And just as too much junk food can lead to obesity, too much junk information can lead to cluelessness. Let SOFI shows you how to thrive in this information glut—what to look for, what to avoid, and how to be selective. Stay far away from Craig’s List and Yahoo Groups. Avoid the mortgage segment, the home of 99% of all of the problems in the field services industry.

Your goal should be to decrease the amount of work you perform while increasing revenue. The goal is to find your inefficiencies in order to eliminate them and to find your strengths so that you can multiply them.

Ninety-nine percent of the people in the world are convinced that they are incapable of achieving great things, so they aim for the mediocre. Let SOFI put you on an information diet that will help you focus on the higher quality firms that pay the higher fees.
