Property preservation mechanics are breaking into homes that have NOT been abandoned and they are removing valuable personal property. Sometimes, they break into the wrong home. One solution being implemented is to have the inspector performing the monthly inspections meet with the property preservation crew at the property to determine if the property is vacant and abandoned before the front door is ripped off the hinges ( yes doors get damaged). More eyes mean better decision-making in the field. MAYBE!
Actually, it is not the number of eyes that is important. It is the additional insurance coverage provided. With more people (more insurance policies) involved, it makes for spreading the damages from a bad decision over more insurance policies. Group decisions are not always better. But a group, all with insurance coverage, is so much better when you are looking to spread the blame.
