Outside in the world, Safeguard Properties was supposed to be protecting millions of homes that had slid into foreclosure, shoring up and repairing abandoned properties for the banks that were responsible for tending to all this real estate gone bad.

But inside the offices of Safeguard’s complaint department, Kevin Kubovcik says he gained a starkly different perspective on his company’s pursuits as allegations of incompetence, malevolence and larceny rolled in day after day.

  1. I am temporarily with a vendor that works with Safeguard. I say temporarily because I am in a cash crunch due to several streams drying up at once but intend to leave at the first logical chance I get.

I laugh because I did a small stint before as well shortly after they bought BACFS through another vendor that allegedly dropped them fast because their early requirements made things impossible to deal with. The mess that incurred in the beginning was amazing nonetheless. The funny thing was that BACFS was in the end simple! One shot, document occupancy, move on (few more if vacant). One shot! Now they all want 3, 4, 5+ for an occupancy check….

Anyway one of the things SG implemented was that an inspector meet with a contractor on site for certain initial secures. Both parties then take photos together to document the same things to avoid discrepancies…my only guess is to make sure it’s done and that no one takes stuff inside.

So I get one at a condo complex I happen to be familiar with…meet the contractor and we go to work. Contractor knocks on door, waits, no answer. Starts drilling deadbolt out to gain access, gets the door open, wouldn’t you know, the occupant then comes to the door.

Talk about embarrassing. We both state our reasons, show her the work order, etc. Contractor states that would you like the lock changed as he’s supposed to. She refuses because she apparently doesn’t have the key/doesn’t use that door much(?!)

So after that we leave. Good luck now getting the lock changed!

Point is there’s stupidity on both sides…of course I’m sure some moron inspector called this vacant to begin with. There’s also decent contractors who intend to do the job right. Of course, our reports make things difficult because we say someone’s inside….

    Oy vay.
