When Chrysler performs maintenance on your automobile, they automatically add shop materials to the cost of the repair. The shop materials is 10% of the total bill which means that it is 10% the sum of the material and labor.
When you submit a property preservation bid, do not forget to add Shop Materials (about 10%) to the bid. Why add the 10% to the material used? The answer is that you have to purchase, finance, transport and store materials … so there is an extra cost.
Avoid working for national or regional property preservation firms that tell you how just must bid a task. Avoid firms that tell you that (so they say) HUD has determined that your bid is too high and you must perform for a lower price set by HUD. Bids are accepted or rejected. I have never seen a written communication from HUD which said the a bid would be accepted only at a lower price specified by HUD. Firms don’t always tell the truth … you will probably never see an email or letter that you can track back to HUD or a Government GSE.
