Voice Messages Are In Decline With The Rise Of Text Messages

In data prepared for USA TODAY, Vonage, an Internet phone company, says the number of voice-mail messages left on user accounts was down 8% in July from a year ago. New data shows that voice mail is declining. At SOFI, we listen to all voice messages. We also find that many callers do not leave a voice message. If we receive a call, we usually return the call, even when no message has been left. We don’t answer or return calls from “Unknown” callers … why are they hiding?.

Texting is becoming much more common. Voice mail is on its way out and texting is here. Landline telephones are quickly disappearing. It’s best to junk the landline handset and use cell phones exclusively, unless you have a home security system requiring a landline or have young children and use a young babysitter. Today, most babysitters have a smart phone with texting.

Cell phones are best for field service representatives because you want to be available 24/7 and you want to be able to receive text messages. It’s a new world. Sic transit gloria mundi is a Latin phrase that means “Thus passes the glory of the world.” It has been interpreted as “Worldly things are fleeting.” Voice mail is fleeting. Adjust your business communications accordingly.
