welcome-to-detroit

Parts of Detroit are HIGH RISK AREAS. Your chances of becoming a victim of crime (in one year) in Detroit ZIP code 48204 is one in seven. Many city police departments require armed police to patrol in pairs and have instant radio communications with a dispatcher when in high-crime areas.

Do your own research! Some of the national and regional mortgage field service will not alert you that areas assigned to you are high-crime areas. There are field service firm recruiters/managers who would never walk in your shoes in such high-crime areas. High risk always requires higher pay. Demand higher pay for high-crime areas. Better yet … avoid them. Let the the firms hire off-duty police who can better handle such tasks. A $3 mortgage inspection in Detroit ZIP code 48204 could be your last inspection. The odds are one is seven that you will be a victim of crime.

  1. I began my career in the inspection field doing inspections in East St. Louis, IL, the number one city in the country for crime and violence. My vendor would have never stepped foot in that area, and there was little understanding when I didn’t want to get out of my car to leave a door card. When they increased the requirements and began requiring pictures of every electric meter, gas meter and water spigot on the properties, no matter how many obvious signs of occupancy there were, I did not want the area anymore. I was not happy to have it to begin with, but in order for me to keep working with them, I had to take it along with the other areas I serviced. I did not do it, and eventually I just stopped receiving any work at all from them. I am female, white, 5’5″ and weigh 110 pounds. I now only contract with companies that I can choose my own zip codes with, and feel fortunate to be with those companies. As for my previous vendor, they continue to have a high turnover. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, is worth risking my safety, especially a 4.50 mortgage inspection.
