Some field service firms have online application forms. Personally, I would not provide a social security number to any firm before I have talked to someone on the telephone and confirmed that they have some jobs and could use my services. When you fill out online forms, use 000-00-0000 as a place holder until such time as you can validate that you are dealing with a reputable field services firm. Some firms do not have https encrypted web sites and they are sloppy about handling private information. SOFI will never ask you for your social security number.
