Dorann and I visited Disney’s Magic Kingdom on Wednesday. My good friend David is the landscape manager at Disney. He provided us with a four-park guest pass and VIP parking. It was a great day … perfect weather. While visiting the Hall of Presidents, I chatted with a gentleman from Woodbridge, Virginia. I have performed many field service inspections in Woodbridge in Prince William County. He retired from the Navy as a submariner. He left with some Navy experience with thermal imaging. Retired, he says he makes some great part-time income with the thermal imaging of farm animals … primarily horses. He is living in “horse country” in Virginia. He says that for a horse, he usually takes about 20 thermal images which he provides to a veterinarian who uses them to analyze the health of the animal. He told me that he earns about $350 for an hour of work thermal imaging a horse.
He said that he has very little competition in his area. He explained that common conditions in animals can be picked-up before clinical signs, allowing you to administer treatment, or call the vet sooner – saving time, money and stress. Back and muscle injuries post-calving can be detected allowing prompt treatment, increasing the animal’s well being and chances of conceiving again. Degenerative joint conditions, nerve and skin complaints can also be picked up using thermography.
When you look at the words “field services” you must understand that they are many definitions of field services. Field services is much more than $3 mortgage inspections. Trained field service inspectors can make some big bucks and have some fun in the process. Some home inspectors [inspectors for the buyers of real estate] also specialize in equine thermal imaging. Building a successful business is all about exploring. It is all about learning about new opportunities by networking at every opportunity … even at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Many field service inspectors have never talked to another field inspector. What are you doing to grow your business? Are you training? Are you networking? Are you exploring?
