At Coca-Cola Headquarters Voice Mail Is OUT and Texting Is IN

At Coca-Cola headquarters, voice mail is out and testing is in. Forget about leaving a voice mail at Coca-Cola Co.’s Atlanta headquarters. Send a text instead. Coca-Cola is one of the biggest companies yet to ditch its old-style voice mail. Techies have predicted the death of voice mail for years as smartphones co-opt much of the office work once performed by telephones and desktop computers. Younger employees who came of age texting while largely ignoring voice mail are bringing that habit into the workforce.

The old-timers in the field services industry still cling to fax over email and voice mail over texting. There are not very many young techies in the field services industry so the migration to texting as a replacement for voice mail will be slow to come about.

At SOFI, we have eliminated the landlines and the Fax. Our office phones are all smartphones … i-phones. With AT&T wireless, call forwarding and smartphones, we can be more available to our customers. We also make ourselves available on the weekends and when we are traveling. We still have voice mail and we also accept text messages and we send text messages. We use Box.com for our cloud. We can move our office anyplace in the world. We have conducted business as far away as Kailua – Kona in Hawaii. In 2004 we held a great four-day conference on the Big Island of Hawaii. I sometimes make and receive business calls while I am on my bicycle in the Green Swamp of Florida. We use Authorize.net and Merchant One for all of our secure credit/debit card processing. WebsiteDynamics hosts our websites and WordPress hosts our blogs. We use password protected Macintosh computers for additional security.
