  1. I agree. I’ve been charging $20 an hour plus .58 per mile and I find when you travel for companies when they cannot find anyone else, they will negotiate fees with you regardless of what their fee schedule is.

    1. My cost to drive is .75 mile driving a Honda accord 4 Cy. It seems like most service companies are getting cheaper by the day, It would be nice to deal direct cutting out the middleman and receive a fair rate of pay.

    2. This has been my experience also. Keep the lowest paying jobs close to home to provide filler when you do not have the better paying jobs and good after the commercial work for all of the others. Sign-up for as many companies as you can and then you can be selective and able to negotiate better.

  2. I’ve managed to net upwards of $45/hr by aggressively managing my territory and runs to maximize profit while hitting the various areas.

I keep extensive statistics which are helpful when a vendor needs relief help in a remote area and I negotiate mutually acceptable fees to maintain my profitability.

However, there are national vendors out there that remain inflexible regarding trip fees, and I end up declining offers regularly to handle their problem areas. Fortunately my regular territory volume has been robust enough that I am in a position to be able to decline this unprofitable work.
