Speed Is Important In Field Services! So What Are You? Are You A Cheetah Or A Toad?

The speed at which you respond to electronic communications from field service firms is very important to your success in the field services industry. Your response time to telephone calls, texts and emails will determine if you get a field services task assigned to you. The lack of speed in responding to telephone calls, texts and emails has killed many a field service representative.

Field representatives need to have Cheetah-like qualities when it comes to responding to telephone calls, texts and emails. If you are a slow-moving toad who is slow to respond to communications, you will never make it as a field service representative. Speed is so very, very important. Cheetahs get hired … toads get stepped on!

I use an email service that will tell me that you received my email and when you opened it. Having such a service tells me a lot about you … if you are a Cheetah or a toad.

  1. well everyone cannot be a Cheetah. For instance, I have Verizon service with one of their “smart” phones. I dont get my emails for at least one day after they are sent. So I cant be a Cheetah as I can only respond after I get home. Verizon is not the best in the industry. I have spoken to them and their tech support about it. They dont have an answer and nothing has changed. The LG phone is not very ‘ Smart” apparently. So, though, I prefer to be a Cheetah. It is out of my hands at this point. Susan Townsend

    1. Switch to AT&T. Get am i-phone such as the 6 or 6S. I have never heard of a one-day delay in receiving an email. It’s time to make the move.

  2. Being a cheetah is a matter of several things. Being a cheetah is easily about good customer service. When you work for someone else, you are expected to be prompt and courteous with customers and clients. Why not do the same for your field services business?

    To me, being a cheetah is also about a certain thirst for winning, or simply surviving. If your tools are no longer working or are outdated, you have to decide whether your business is worth the expense. My business is always worth the small expenses, like a new camera because I forgot mine in another county. I’ve often bought a $30 printer cartridge for my home office before doing a lot of other things. In the end, I retain the contract and have a reputation for being a “Closer”. I get the job done!

    Lastly, being a cheetah is about being proactive. Conducting business development activities during your down time is a good move. Continuing to educate yourself and growing your business by accepting new/different work assignments will get you on the rise, quick!
