79-Years Young Field Inspector… Part-Time Field Services … About $45,000 In 2016 … Read More

ptField services can generate some extra income for seniors. Below is what a 79-year old Illinois inspector had to say about part-time field services and how it fits him.

Everything is ice covered this am in northern Illinois!!!! I see many of your comments about retired people working field inspections to keep busy and make a few extra bucks to pay for that badly needed high priced medical attention. I just turned 79 in December, am THANKFULLY, abnormally healthy and love meeting people. Started full time in 2005 and only been off only for a few months because of my wife’s sudden illness, death and time needed to get my head together.

In 2016, I grossed just short of $45,000 in my part time job. Yes, and almost weekly turned down jobs. If you are good; they will find you. Except for the few days in winter and a few days in the summer, it is a great job. However, as a new inspector, you must reach proficiency almost immediately and excellence in a month. Fast changing technology is the most difficult issue at our age.

One of the large inspection companies has a slogan “One at a time, On time, Everytime” and that must become the absolute “MINIMUM” in your performane standards. With an unemployment rate of almost 5%, millions no longer looking and not counted in that number, and millions in minimum wage jobs, Field Inspection companies do not have to nor will simply accept excuses. The bane of our industry is the people who desperately need money to feed their family and a good share of us have been there sometime in our lifetime. You may use this info in your blog but please no name!! Would like to see comments from others in my age bracket.

Am I the oldest? Looking forward a great 2017.
