The national field service firms are putting out some bad information on trespass laws. Many of the field service firm managers are saying it is okay to trespass. They have no legal training and they have not even looked at the federal, state and local statutes on trespass. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Some of the homeowners who post no trespass signs are unstable. Some have guns … and they will use them. Call your local sheriff and ask about the trespass laws in your state. Ask law enforcement how they are going to react to a homeowner or tenant who calls 911 and says you are trespassing. You are an independent contractor. Don’t expect a customer to bail you out of a problem. You will be very disappointed. Homeowners and tenants that post no trespass signs are serious about their property rights. As a field service representative, you need to understand the rights of a homeowner or tenant. Be sure that you understand the law of trespass in your state.
